Certified Personal Trainer Prep

Material Overview

This material covers the ground a personal training qualification usually examines: exercise science, client assessment, goal setting, plan design, coaching method, communication, injury prevention, professional ethics and the business side of working with clients. It explains how to keep a client safe, motivated and progressing over months. Read at your own pace, fill the gaps in what you already know, and work towards certification with a certifying body of your choosing.

Level · Beginner
Purpose

Before anything technical comes the question of what a fitness professional is allowed to do. This level establishes scope of practice, basic anatomy and the screening that has to happen before anybody exercises.

Outcome

Beyond this you can screen somebody safely before their first workout, name what you are looking at on a body, and state clearly where your responsibility ends and a medical one begins.

What You'll Learn

  • Scope of practice and its boundaries, the muscles and joints you must be able to name, health screening questionnaires, red flags that require medical clearance, a first meeting with a new client, and record keeping
Credits 249 CREDITS
Level · Intermediate
Purpose

Building a plan for somebody else differs from building one for yourself, because you will not be there when they do it. This level covers plan design, instruction and everything that has to be unambiguous.

Outcome

The net effect is a written plan a beginner can follow without you standing there, movements you can teach in a sentence, and the reflex to change an exercise the moment it stops looking right.

What You'll Learn

  • Turning a goal into a written plan, exercise selection for a beginner, sets, repetitions and progression rules, teaching a movement in three cues or fewer, spotting and safety, and adjusting on the spot when something hurts
Credits 499 CREDITS
Level · Advanced
Purpose

Real clients rarely match the textbook. This level deals with the ones who arrive pregnant, sixty five, recovering from surgery or carrying a back problem, and with the behaviour change that keeps anybody turning up.

Outcome

You are then able to train people the standard plan does not fit, cooperate sensibly with their clinician, and keep somebody engaged through the months when results slow down and enthusiasm fades.

What You'll Learn

  • Adapting exercise for pregnancy, older adults and common conditions, working alongside medical advice, motivational conversation, goal setting that holds, handling a client who stops progressing, and the topics a certifying body usually examines
Credits 797 CREDITS
Level · Expert
Purpose

Working as a professional involves a great deal that has nothing to do with exercise. This level covers the business, the paperwork, the ethics and the habit of keeping your knowledge current after any exam.

Outcome

Where you land is a professional who can run the unglamorous half of the job properly: clear agreements, protected client data, firm boundaries, and a plan for staying current five years from now.

What You'll Learn

  • Insurance and liability in outline, contracts and cancellation terms, pricing your time, client confidentiality and data handling, professional boundaries, complaints, and how to keep reading after a qualification is finished
