Group Fitness Coaching

Material Overview

Coaching ten people is not coaching one person ten times, and the reading is built around that difference. It covers planning a workout for a mixed group, cueing exercises clearly, leading with presence, communicating under noise, keeping participants engaged, safety procedures, using music, scaling difficulty up and down, and reviewing how it went. You will read how to motivate a room, manage very different abilities side by side, and deliver group workouts that people come back to.

Level · Beginner
Purpose

Standing in front of twelve people is a different job from helping one. This level covers the basics of leading a group, where you have to be heard, seen and understood all at once by everybody present.

Outcome

Expect to lead a straightforward group workout from start to finish, be heard at the back of a noisy room, and notice the one person whose form needs fixing before it becomes a problem.

What You'll Learn

  • Planning a workout for a group of unknown ability, three short cues per movement, where to stand and when to move, projecting your voice, counting and timing, and the safety checks you make before anybody starts
Credits 275 CREDITS
Level · Intermediate
Purpose

Every group contains a beginner and somebody very fit, usually side by side. This level is about serving both at the same time without slowing one down or frightening the other.

Outcome

You should manage a group where abilities differ widely and have everyone leave satisfied, change the difficulty halfway through without announcing it, and finish on the minute you said you would.

What You'll Learn

  • Offering an easier and a harder option for every exercise, adjusting difficulty mid workout, managing the pace of a room, encouraging without singling anybody out, reading the energy in front of you, and finishing on time

Level · Advanced
Purpose

Larger rooms and longer formats change what leadership requires. This level covers bigger groups, microphones, music that does the work for you, and what to do the moment something goes wrong in front of everybody.

Outcome

What you can do next is hold the attention of a large room for a full hour, use music as structure rather than background, and deal with an injury in front of forty people without losing the group.

What You'll Learn

  • Leading forty people rather than ten, microphone technique, building a playlist that carries the structure, running circuits and stations, handling an injury or a faint calmly, difficult participants, and managing a room with two leaders

Level · Expert
Purpose

At this level you are designing what other people lead. The material covers building a format from nothing, keeping quality consistent between different leaders, and helping newer colleagues get better.

Outcome

You emerge capable of designing a format somebody else can deliver faithfully, giving a colleague feedback they can act on, and judging whether what you built keeps people coming back after two months.

What You'll Learn

  • Designing a repeatable format with a clear structure, writing it down so another leader delivers it faithfully, quality standards and honest feedback, observing and debriefing a colleague, participant retention, and reviewing what a format actually achieves
